About the artist

Marc Bacall (b. August 4, 1984) is an American abstract expressionist painter based in the San Francisco Bay Area and Metro Manila, Philippines. His work explores time, memory, and the tension between creation and destruction, drawing inspiration from distorted photographs and video. He incorporates textured layers, collage, and found materials, including National Geographic images and everyday plastics.

Bacall holds a degree in art from San Francisco State University, with a dual emphasis in painting and art history, and earned his teaching credential from Saint Mary’s College. He led an award-winning art program at Crystal Middle School before turning down a master’s degree in education to focus on his art.

After a fire destroyed his early works, Bacall recommitted to his practice. Working in oil and acrylic, he blends thin, transparent washes with bold, thick layers to create a tactile experience. He has exhibited at San Francisco State University and hosted open studio days. Currently, he is working toward gallery representation while continuing to explore how art preserves and transforms memories and materials.
